The Link Day Club recently celebrated 18 years of continuous operation
A Little Bit of History
On the 4th October 2007 the Link RSL Day Club began its first day of operation.
Prior to this there had been meetings and an advertising effort to make people aware of the commencement of the club.
On the first day there were 49 present.
One of those members was Coral and another was Danny.
Joy joined on the 5th June 2008
In those days the Club days were held at Legacy House as the kitchen at ANZAC House was not up to scratch.
Rent was being charged at Legacy House and over the years this began to grow. We were being charged for the use of the hall plus extra to use the kitchen. It became necessary to move to ANZAC House.
To prepare the sandwiches a table was put up in the centre of the kitchen.
In 2016 the President of the Sub Branch Graham Docksey obtained a large grant which was used to demolish and rebuild the kitchen at ANZAC House thus making the kitchen and all facilities available to the Day Club. This was done over the Christmas break with minimal disruption to the Club.
In 2017 Danny became the Coordinator and Jan became administrator when the Club coordinator and all Kitchen volunteer staff retired, with the exception of Judith Crawford who then became kitchen coordinator. Judith recently retired and Akuien Deng with help from Ken Anderson looks after the kitchen
